On Easter morning, April 16 at 11 am, the Chancel Choir will perform Sacred Places. It is a new cantata based on early American folk songs and hymns. Sacred Places explores the story of Christ’s ministry, passion and resurrection, all emphasizing the locations where these great moments occurred: the Sea of Galilee, the Wedding at Cana, the Sermon on the Mount, Jerusalem, the Upper Room, the Garden of Gethsemane, Calvary, and the Garden of Resurrection. With poignant narrations and scripture this will be a memorable cantata as we celebrate the resurrection of our Lord.
The Crucifixion by John Stainer will be performed on Good Friday, April 14 at 7 pm in the sanctuary. First Presbyterian performed this work in 1994 on Palm Sunday. The Crucifixion is a meditation on the sacred passion of the Holy Redeemer. We will have guest soloists and chorus from Catawba College to augment our own Chancel Choir. The work is a cantata that has two main characters; the evangelist or narrator who sings the passion and Jesus who sings of His own passion.

Women will gather to meet on Monday evenings at 6:30 p.m. with the starting date scheduled for September 19 and an ending date of May 1 with breaks during the month of December and throughout the meeting schedule. This study comes to us from a satellite women’s ministry based in Raleigh, NC. It is an interdenominational study. This ministry began with 8 women meeting together and over the years has grown to serve over 500 women in the Raleigh and surrounding areas. Landra Goodnight Staab will facilitate the lesson each week in a small group setting with lecture speaker, Sarah Knott, coming to us by satellite. Registration is necessary so that materials may be provided. Register by completing a registration card found below or in the narthex or entrance to the fellowship hall, then drop it in the offering plate or contact Judy D. Goodnight or the church office.
